When should the brake pads be changed on an Iveco Daily?

Driving with damaged brake pads can have serious consequences. Without effective brake pads, it is unthinkable to get behind the wheel: damaged brakes increase the braking distance and can put you in dangerous situations.

Replacing the brake pads on your Iveco Daily is therefore a necessary step, which must be carried out with care and attention. We explain everything.

How do I know if I need to change the brake pads on my Iveco Daily?

  • Why should I change the brake pads on my Iveco Daily?

Brake pad wear varies depending on the environment and your driving style. It is important to note that driving in urban areas causes brake pads to wear out more quickly. The lifespan of your car’s brakes also depends on the frequency and intensity of braking.

The pads are part of the braking system, clamping onto the brake discs. Every time you brake, the lining wears down. Consequently, worn pads affect braking distance. This increased distance can be dangerous.

  • When should the brake pads on an Iveco Daily be replaced?

Generally, it is recommended to change your brake pads every 10,000 to 30,000 kilometres. As you will have realised, this is an average, which should be adjusted according to the type of use and the load on your vehicle.

If you hear squeaking noises when you press the brake pedal, that’s a bad sign! Furthermore, if your brake pedal feels harder or softer to the touch: this is a sign of wear! And therefore a sign of danger.

On the dashboard, an indicator light won’t lie. The brake warning light glows orange. It’s there to alert you to a problem with the brakes. But it doesn’t tell you exactly what the issue is. There could be several causes. It could be, for example, a loss of brake fluid.

Brake fluid ensures the entire braking system works properly. It must be changed every two years. If you suspect a leak or a drop in the fluid level, be vigilant! Don’t wait for the MOT; check the fluid level immediately.

If you have any doubts, check the condition of your brake pads regularly using the wear indicators. These are now fitted as standard on modern vehicles such as the 2020 Iveco Daily. Depending on the model, they can indicate the number of kilometres you can safely travel before they need replacing.

Changing the brake pads on my Iveco Daily

Let’s get straight to the point: how do you change the brake pads on an Iveco Daily? We’ll explain every step of the process.

  1. Make sure you get brake pads that are suitable for your Iveco Daily. Before buying them, check your vehicle registration document to ensure they are compatible with your vehicle.

  2.  Park your vehicle on a flat, stable surface.

  3. Start by changing the rear brake pads on your Iveco Daily.

  4. Don’t forget to apply the handbrake. Engage a gear. Unscrew the wheel bolts on the wheels you wish to work on. It is best to use a wheel nut wrench.

  5.  Raise your vehicle onto jack stands

  6.  Remove the wheels.

  7. Before touching the caliper, you need to pry between the pad and the disc to fully retract the caliper piston. Do this with a flat-bladed screwdriver.

  8. To replace your vehicle’s brake pads, use the large Torx bit to unscrew the two bolts on a wheel to remove the brake calipers.

  9. Once the caliper has been removed, carefully replace the front brake pads on your Iveco Daily. Clean and grease the brake pad mounting surface. Replace the old brake pads with new ones.

  10.  Check that they are correctly fitted before refitting the brake calipers.

  11. Reassemble everything.

  12. Don’t forget to check that your wheels are firmly locked to the ground, otherwise you risk damaging your transmission.

  13. Pump the brake pedal two or three times without applying pressure. This will ensure the brake pads make good contact with the disc surface.

  14. Now do the same with the front brake pads on the Iveco Daily.
