When should you change the diesel filter on your Iveco Daily?
The diesel filter is one of the most important components in your Iveco Daily. It is one of the Iveco Daily parts that you will need to change regularly. By ensuring you replace it, you will maintain your vehicle’s performance. Good news! If you’re a bit of a DIY mechanic, with a few tools and by carefully following all the steps for changing the filter, you don’t need to go to a garage. Say goodbye to the unnecessary expense that comes with it! We’ll explain everything.
What is the fuel filter on an Iveco Daily used for?
Before you know when to change the Iveco Daily diesel filter, you need to know what it’s for. And how those infamous particles that clog it up are formed!
Prevention is better than cure! As we know, replacing an engine is more complicated and more expensive than replacing the filter. So vigilance is key! A faulty filter affects your vehicle’s power and can reduce its lifespan.
The diesel filter plays a very important role in the proper functioning of your vehicle. As its name suggests, it serves to filter out the residues found in the fuel. The filter therefore cleans the diesel before it reaches the engine. If a filter is faulty, the engine systems can become clogged with these residues.
The diesel filter is therefore one of the essential components for the proper functioning of your vehicle.
Before being fed into the engine, the fuel must be filtered. This is because there are many particles present in the fuel tank. When you fill up with fuel, air enters the tank along with the fuel. And there is water in the air. Consequently, water condensation will form in the tank. Water and condensation provide an ideal environment for bacteria to grow. It is because of these bacteria that particles and residues form inside the tank.
To keep your fuel filter in good condition, you must therefore minimise condensation. To do this, there are two very simple tips to follow:
-
Avoid letting the tank run almost dry.
-
Be careful not to run on empty. Even if it’s not always easy. Plan ahead! It’s better to top up frequently than to let the tank run dry.
As you’ll have realised, your diesel filter purifies the fuel as well as the water. Over time, it becomes clogged and therefore less effective. That’s why it needs to be replaced from time to time.
How often should you change the diesel filter on an Iveco Daily?
When should you change the diesel filter on your vehicle? Don’t wait for the service check – take the initiative. There are a few rules to follow:

-
Signs to look out for
Keep an eye out. But don’t panic – it’s probably just the filter that’s become clogged if:
-
You feel jerks whilst driving.
-
Your engine is struggling more than usual.
-
Your vehicle is harder to start than usual.
Some tips for changing your Iveco Daily diesel filter.
1/ If you’re replacing the filter, we strongly recommend that you also change your vehicle’s oil. This will ensure a more thorough service.
2/ To protect the engine, the filter is an Iveco Daily part that you should replace and check regularly. But do you know where it is? Located before the injection system, it is situated on the fuel system, next to the engine block.
You can recognise it by its cylindrical shape. If you still can’t see it, refer to your Iveco Daily’s service booklet.
3/ When changing the diesel filter, you will be handling parts containing fuel. So be careful! It is always best to take every precaution. Make sure you do this in a well-ventilated area, or ideally outdoors. Stay away from all sources of heat. Protect yourself with safety goggles and gloves.
